Chico Art Center, Chico, California announced this week its selections for their National Juried exhibit. Among the selected pieces were a custom sterling, serpentine and peridot necklace created by Stevens Point silversmith, Joan North. This exhibit features exemplary artwork of all media submitted by artists from across the United States and runs from September 7 to 28. North skillfully controls sterling sheet and wire to create unusual designs, often including unusual semi-precious stones. Her necklace, “Circle of Life” incorporates a textured sterling base holding an exquisite serpentine gem, under the watchful eye of three peridots. Custom sterling bezels and chain complete this marvelous piece. Joan is a full time, award-winning silversmith whose jewelry is shown at galleries, museums and exhibits coast to coast, most recently in California, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, Florida, Idaho, Michigan, Ohio, and Arizona. North has been operating Joan North Designs for eighteen years in her Stevens Point Studio. She is represented by various galleries across the country and locally at Q Gallery, Riverfront Arts Center and Center for the Visual Arts. What kind of art comes from the concept of WINDOWS? The Art League of Lincoln, Lincoln, California chose that concept for its most recent nationally juried art exhibit, Windows: A Theme Challenge. This March 21 to April 21 exhibit will include two window-themed jewelry pieces from silversmith Joan North of Stevens Point, WI. North's Stained Glass Pearl necklace suggests a pearl sitting on the other side of a sterling stained glass window. Window to the Future necklace focuses attention on the empty portal in the middle of a sterling frame to suggest that the future can be anything.
